What
is the annual HES Science Fair?
Have you ever
wondered...
How a polar bear stays
warm?
What happens to a chocolate
chip cookie if you leave out an ingredient?
What the effects of
temperature on air pressure?
Which breakfast cereal
stays crunchy the longest?
These are just a few
of the numerous projects done by HES students in the
past.
The Science Fair is a
wonderful opportunity for students to explore the
world of science. Students pick a topic that
interests them, do some investigation and then
create a display of their work to be presented at
the fair.
And in honor of their
scientific curiosity... all students who present
projects will receive recognition for their hard
work and scientific efforts.
How to get
started: Get thinking! You can
investigate, learn about and test your theories on
virtually any topic that interests you. You
decide what aspect of science interests you!
Projects are self-directed but you should obtain a
"project packet" with scientific
guidelines and easy-to-follow instructions that will
help you. (These are available by filling out
the paper that was sent home with all students, or
by returning the slip at the bottom of this sheet.)
Do your
project: Make predictions and perform your
experiment (as outlined in the project
packet.) Was your prediction right? Your
results may surprise you!
Display your hard
work: Create a display of your scientific
work. You can even include a picture or two of
yourself working on your project. (Display
boards can be purchased at craft stores, office
supply stores, teacher supply stores, and even some
grocery stores.)
The Science Fair:
On Science Fair night, all of the projects will be
on display for students, parents, friends and
faculty to see! We plan to have a guest
speaker, a Scientific Scavenger Hunt and more!
Who comes to the
fair? In a word, everyone! You do
not have to have submitted a project to come to the
fair. All science enthusiasts, supporters of
HES... or anyone who wants to find out How much
saltwater does it take to float an egg?
should come!
When:
The
deadline for project titles is Thursday, Feb. 15.
The fair is scheduled for . So mark that new 2008 calendar!
This is a great family event you won't want to miss!
