Programs
The Hammond Elementary PTA sponsors many of the programs that your child(ren) and family will benefit from throughout the school year. We hope that you will consider volunteering for one of them! To sign up, please use this volunteer form. Volunteer coordinators can be found under Program Chairs.
5k Run/Walk
This is an annual event usually held on a Saturday morning in May.
Assistance is needed to prep for the program and on event day.
5th Grade Hall of Fame
This is a hallway display honoring our out-going 5th graders in the
spring. The committee photographs 5th grade students and combines the
photos with students' writing pieces to create a page for each student.
These are displayed at school and also compiled into a book which is
distributed to the 5th graders.
After School Programs
Coordinate a variety of after-school programs throughout the
year. Programs offered previously: Foreign Language, Art, tennis
lessons, etc. For information on the KidzArt

Basket Bingo / Silent
Auction
This program is a new fundraiser. We need a coordinator and committee to
plan and host aspects of this event. This will be an adult only event.
Cultural Arts
This program is funded by the PTA. Throughout the year, a variety of
artists, performers, authors, and other individuals or groups will visit HES
and provide educational entertainment presentations to the students. The
programs are usually held during school hours.
Display My Art
This is a program typically offered around Mother's Day. Families can
have their child's work transferred into selected products making treasured
gifts that everyone can wear, share and display.
Fall Festival
This will be a fun family event held on the school grounds in the fall with
games and attractions.
Fall Fun Run
This fun run takes place at the school during your child’s Related Arts time
in October.
Garage/Yard Sale
The elementary school PTA holds a sale in the spring. A space may be
rented for a nominal fee. This is a very popular, well-attended
event.
Green School
Assist when necessary to keep our "Green School" status with the
State of MD.
Holiday Shop
Each year in December, a shop is set up featuring inexpensive presents that
students may purchase for their family members for the holidays.
Kindergarten Registration
Assist office staff during the week of registration for Kindergartners in the
spring, for students entering HES in the fall.
Media Center
The Media Center is in need of your help to assist the media
specialists during the students' class time. This is a fun opportunity
to become familiar with the newly renovated center and the books your
child(ren) have access to. Class sessions are 45 minutes long. So
if you have one day a week or done day a month, your assistance would be
greatly appreciated!
Multicultural Night
Each year, a group of parents and staff organize the HES Multicultural Night
which celebrates the many cultures at HES. The evening includes
displays, food, performances, a Parade of Nations, etc.
Nominating Committee
Assist the chairperson in recruiting parents and teachers to serve on the HES
PTA Executive Board.
Restaurant Night
Once a month during the year, the PTA arranges a family fun night at a local
restaurant. This is a fundraising event for the PTA. In the past,
restaurants have included: LaPalapa, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Red, Hot &
Blue, Chick-fil-A, Three Brothers Italian Restaurant, and J&Ps
Pizza. Check the calendar!
School Beautification
Parents, Staff, Students, or troops who are willing to assist with spring
planting, and mulching. This could be part of Green School.
Science Fair
Assist staff in preparing for and hosting this evening event.
Spirit Wear
This is an opportunity to order t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, shorts,
caps and similar items emblazoned with the Hammond Elementary School name
and/or mascot.
Staff Appreciation
Assist the chairperson in arranging lunch/dinner, events and special occasions
to celebrate the HES staff.
Store Fundraising
Target, Safeway, Bloom, BJs and Giant all offer programs in which using their
card for purchases gains money for the school. You must sign up at your
store each year to designate your school and participate in the program.
Another facet of fundraising is the collecting of Campbell's Labels for
education and General Mills BoxTop$ for Education. Campbell's labels are
not only found on soup, they're also on Goldfish crackers, Spaghettios, and a
variety of other products. General Mills BoxTop$ are found on cereal,
cake mixes and other products. There are collection boxes for the labels
and box tops in the school lobby. For more information, please

Student Directory
Assist chairperson in collecting, organizing,
publishing and distributing the directory.
Talent Show
This annual event occurs in the late winter/early spring. All students
are welcomed. Group and individual acts may perform. Asist
chairperson in organizing and planning this evening event.
Vision & Hearing
Assist school nurse in implementing this event during school hours.
Wrapping Paper Fundraiser
Assist chairperson in collecting orders, organizing and
distribution. Early in the year, a catalog will be sent home that
features a wrapping paper, gourmet candies and chocolates, and small gifts and
ornaments. This is the largest fundraiser for the school. The
school receives 50% of all proceeds.
