MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
The State Superintendent of Schools Nancy Grasmick has approved the
request to waive June
16 as a student day. This means that the last student day for all
Howard County public schools this year will be June
13th, with June ll, 12 and 13 dismissing 3 hours early.
FIELD DAY!
Field Day was a wonderful experience for all; students, staff and parents.
We would like to thank Ms. McCulloch and Mr. Pfeffer for all of their hard
work, and thank you to all the parents that took time from their busy day
to ensure the safety and enjoyment of our students.
HES PTA CARNIVAL FOOD DRIVE CONTEST WINNER!
Last week the Food Drive for LARS came to an end. Before the winner of the
Popsicle Party with Mr. Vanisko is announced, EVERYONE in EACH GRADE
should be thanked and congratulated for doing such a fantastic job. The
entire school collected a total of 1,738 items--you should all be very
proud of yourselves for all of your hard work and effort! You are all
winners for helping others in need! And, now - for what everyone has been
waiting to hear - the grade that won the Popsicle Party with Mr. Vanisko,
collected a total of 656 items is - 4th grade!!

Carnival
Come one, come all and enjoy games, rides and attractions, magic,
juggling, seated massage, appearances by the Howard County Police, Fire
& Rescue Squads, Mc Gruff the Crime Dog and much more. Bring your
picnic blanket, relax & enjoy delicious food and treats provided by
our community restaurants. Don't forget to enter the Give Away's to win a
fun prize! Tickets are 3 for $1.00 at the door. Most concessions are cash
sales. Please observe the modified parking lot traffic pattern as well as
all parking laws. Please do not park in the fire lanes or within 100 feet
of intersections. See you tonight!

CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS!
Attention Parents
We are in the process of putting together a "Back-to-School"
schedule for classroom volunteers for the first week of school in
September before our formal volunteer program starts in October. If you
are interested in helping, please email Rae Ann Kaylie at raeann1@comcast.net
with your availability. She will then get back to you to confirm. The
times that are needed for each grade are:
First Grade: 9:15-11:15

J & P Venue Back by Popular Demand!
We will be having our final “Family Night” fundraiser for this school
year on
Tuesday, June 3rd at New
York J&P Pizza. Let's make it our most successful “Family
Night” of the year! Bring your family & friends between 4pm
and 9pm
and enjoy tasty Italian cuisine. 10% of all sales between 4pm
and 9pm
will be donated to the Hammond Elementary PTA, so spread the word and see

FROM THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT
We have a new book in our Parent Lending Library. It is called “The
Worried Child” and is helpful for recognizing anxiety in children and
helping them heal.
2008 STARTALK Summer Language Program for Middle School Students
The Chinese Language School of Columbia(CLSC) in collaboration with the Washington
Metropolitan Association of Chinese Schools will sponsor an innovative
summer program to jump-start Chinese language skills for
non-Chinese-speaking students. You also will experience cultural
activities such as lion-dance, Chinese Yo-Yo, and Chinese calligraphy. The
camp site will be at Burleigh
Manor Middle School from June
30 to July 25th (4 weeks), Monday-Friday:
8:15am-11:45am. The cost of the program is $200 per student. Any
interested students in grades 6-9 for school year 08-09 are welcome to

RESEVOIR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CAMP
The Reservoir High School Booster Club is excited to offer Football Summer
Sports Camp instruction. Players will improve their technical and tactical
drills in an encouraging, educational, and positive environment. The
emphasis is on developing important fundamentals through many individual
and fun skill activities, challenging games, and small-sided scrimmages.
The maximum player-to-coach ratio is 10:1. Participants will be grouped
according to age and ability. A certified trainer will be on the premises
at all times. The camps are limited to existing 5th-8th graders.
